Chaos! Comics, creators of such vampiric female characters as Purgatori, Chastity, and Jade, issued its first-ever crossover pitting two dark maidens against each other in Lady Death vs. Vampirella (Chaos!). Lady Death fans were warned that this was “an imaginary story” and did “not fit in the Chaos! cosmos continuity.” The two had already met each other the previous month in a Harris Publications crossover, Vampirella / Lady Death (Harris). Technically, the two first appeared in a common comic book back in 1996 with Previews’ ashcan Queens of Halloween; the book included a preview of Vampirella: blood lust (Harris); but with independent stories in the achcan, Vampirella and Lady Death didn’t interact with each other. One year later, just after Harris Publications issued the first of another two-part crossover between the two in its Vampirella monthly series, Chaos! Comics issued a second and final issue in its own Lady Death vs. Vampirella series. Lady Death actually appeared slightly earlier in Vampirella monthly (Harris) in a cameo in #0. The final issue of Vampirella monthly (Harris) marked the end of the two ladies together. Advertisements in the issues announced another upcoming Chaos!/Harris crossover, this time between Purgatori and Vampirella. Story takes place between Vampirella Monthly v1 #0 and #13
